Since returning to photography a few years ago I have been guilty of buying far more equipment than I need and my thoughts lately are that I should sell some of the kit i use the least. I am aware that I will lose money doing this but less than leaving it in the cupboard unused. Here is a list and the reasons I am thinking of selling it. What I would appreciate is comments on why I should hang on to it in case I am overlooking something.
My main interests are landscapes, sport (outdoor) of just about any type and very occasionally BIF but this is never going to be a main subject for me. All my photography is on an amatuer basis and for my enjoyment - no clients to please.

I have a 1DX Mk2 and a 7Dmk2 to so cannot see why I should keep my Canon 5D3
I have a canon 300mm F2.8 (latest version) which I would consider selling selling as my Canon 100 - 400 Mk 2 and Sigma 150 - 600 sport seem to cover the things I would use this for. I appreciate that the 300mm is faster but the 1DX can be used at higher ISO's without showing too much noise. Am I missing something?

I would also consider selling my canon 70 - 200 f2,8 as this can be covered by my 24 - 105mm and the 100- 400 zoom.

I also picked up a canon 8 - 15mm which is fun but very rarely used

The kit I am considering selling is in bold. I am a little nervous about selling fast lenses but with sensors getting better I am not convinced that they are necessary.
Your views would be very much appreciated.
 
As an amateur wouldnt the 5D3 be used instead of all of the other cameras, with perhaps the 7D2 for sport/bifs (accepting the slightly higher noise). One thing to be aware of is what lenses affect how each sensor's ability to focus is affected e.g the 5D3 is tuned to fast lenses the 7D2 to slower lenses (the manual for each shows which af points can be activated by which lens, not just a matter of if they will focus at f8). That choice almost means the 1DX is the one to keep but it is a big lump so maybe that will drive your choice.
Agree the 70/200 seems overkill.
No comments on the WA stuff, rarely use one myself.
 
As with all electronic gear, it's better to sell stuff you don't use. The value will only decrease the longer you hold on to it.

It looks like you've already picked out the ones you want to keep which seem reasonable. Start with the ones you use least, and if there are any you're unsure about selling, keep them till you've sold the first batch.

Think of all the cash you'll free up for other things :banana:
 
I would agree to keep the 1DX2 and the 7D2 for the crop factor and sell the other bodies.
Not so sure about your lenses though - I would have thought the 300 f2.8 mkii would be a keeper, keep the 100-400 mkii and get a set of 1.4 & 2x mkiii extenders as I'm sure from experience that the 100-400 with 1.4x extender will match your Sigma Sport and is a lot lighter. Also the 300 f2.8 with 2x is a great combination and gives you 600mm at f5.6.
Not too sure what I'd do at the wider end but you seem to have too many lenses that's for sure as some are covering similar focal lengths.
That's my 2 pence worth anyway.

Actually I forgot to mention that I do have the canon 1.4 and 2x extenders. I hadn't really considered using them on the 100 - 400 instead of the 150 - 600 Sigma. I will give that some thought - thanks.

I found the 1.4x was really good on my 100-400 mkii when I had it, and it was equal to, or in a lot of cases better the Sport which I had at the same time at full zoom on both. Obviously it's at f8 on the Canon but somehow that didn't seem to effect performance for me.
A friend of mine who has the 300 f2.8 mkii swears by both extenders on his, the mkii version of the lens performs a lot better than the original 300 f2.8 did with extenders although the 1.4x was good on that as well.
 
If I was lucky enough to own that I would sell the 650D and the 7D Mk 1, but I'd keep the three other bodies. There are times where a 5D3 may be more useful than a 1DX2 (smaller & lighter) and there are times where the x1.6 crop factor is useful, hence the 7D Mk 2.

Out of the lenses, the 70-200 f/2.8 is a cracking lens that I use often and wouldn't dream of selling, The 300 f/2.8 is a great lens too. Both excellent for sports photography.

Whilst I have a ultrawide zoom I don't use it much so I would sell the equivalent, but I find myself using my 17-40 and a 24-105 often.

I would be keeping the 300mm. Probably the sharpest lens Canon make and brill with both converters. If you don't need the cash this would be on my keepers list for a while.
