I have a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard. I noticed some kind of housing/brackets on the sides of the CPU socket which is where the AMD CPU will go, and on top of it is what you call 'stock' cooler, AMD's own heatsink and fan that comes with the processor in the box.

I would prefer to opt for a 3rd party CPU cooler, at moment, I'm only looking and reviewing, making a list and narrowing it down, of whatever bigger coolers I would be interested in. Purely as an example, I'm referring to stuff like Cooler Master 412 CPU cooler or be quiet! Dark Rock cooler, those big bulky looking heatsink with big fans, you get the idea.

Anyway, I've been checking their online specs, downloadable manuals, and their galleries, and see what kind of fitting I need to do to attach it to the motherboard.

Now I would like to know if I am correct in understanding that to use a preferred big CPU cooler over than of the AMD's own small cooler, I am supposed to remove the motherboard's brackets in order to free up the screw holes for the different brackets?

That would depend entirely on what after market cooler you got, some use the built in fixings, some do not

Did you not ask this question before?

Okay so if and when I buy the after market cooler, check if it can be fitted to the fixings on the motherboard, if not, then I have to unscrew it and take it off? That correct? Okay, I'll note it down. Thanks.
 
First you need to check the aftermarket cooler is made for an AMD socket.

Once you have done this check and see if it will use the standard AMD fittings

If it does not fit the standard fittings then they should provide fittings with the cooler and instructions on how to fit them

Yes, I do check if it is for AMD socket, specifiily for AM3+

And I'm actually checking their fittings, looking at their photos on their websites, it's that I seems to notice they look different, and wonder how will I fit it on the Sabertooth 990FX motherboard.

I didn't expect to find it getting really stressful, the pressure, of trying to find one last major hardware part I need so I can then start building the computer. I keep ending up worrying about how to fit whatever cooler that interest me and if there's good clearance for the RAM.

Okay, got it, if it won't take the standard fittings on the motherboard, they provide fittings, okay, thanks. I'll watch out for it.
