When is the best months to photograph these? I will probably go to Elmley Marshes and Rye Harbour.

Jan, Feb & March, but don't miss the 'shorties' at Sandwich Bay (always lots about and active!)
Thank you - I was hoping to go this year because I will have the holidays - what months this year would be good? Also any advice about Sandwich bay?

I'm afraid that the shorties will not be back until November/December at the earliest and migratory geese a while after that!

However, Elmley is good all year for many other birds and well worth a day out (I believe that you currently have to book in advance). Sandwich Bay Nature Reserve (https://sbbot.org.uk/) is also good for other birds. The Shorties can be easily seen over the golf course when they are around and there is a path that goes straight through the centre of the course, if you park next to the 'Restharrow Scrape'.

My favourite location for birds is 'Stodmarsh Nature Reserve' (https://group.rspb.org.uk/thanet/local-wild-places/stodmarsh-national-nature-reserve/), where Bitterns have been showing well recently, 5 pairs of Breeding Marsh Harriers and Hobbies are around at the moment!

That whole area was my old stomping ground, prior to moving to France 21 years ago, but I still get back to all three locations once or twice each year. These were taken at Stodmarsh:
