Bit of a long shot, but would anyone mind PM me of a location I can get some shots of a short eared owl? Am off tommorow and dont mind a bit of a drive.

I only have a 100-400 so need to be able to get in range. Have tried various locations up to now but the birds are always to far away (scope distance).
 
It may help you to get some replies if you put where you are based Ciaran.
 
cheers Mike, Den gets his on private land, so no access to those.

I might take a punt on something I saw on-line about a spot in the midlands, will have to hope they are showing this year, was hoping for a bit closer.

I have been going up around there, obviously looking in the wrong area.
 
I have sent a pm to ciaran....ade if you could i would like to know the location on grane road as i have traveled that road from haslingden to blackburn for over 25 years and i have never spotted a short eared owl(not saying you have not ) ,a grid reference would be great or a landmark....the nearest i got was a barn owl near the black dog pub a few years ago......thanks
 
Or Parkgate on the Wirral - maybe start/park at Burton Marsh and walk up the path along the estuary - virtually guaranteed mid afternoon onwards?
 
Thanks pivtar, was there on Sat for the high tide, saw three hunting but to far out to get a shot. I will try again it looks a good spot.

Can be like that but I've also seen them within 15m of the road in the middle of Parkgate - near Donkey Stand Flash the other Sunday with hundreds of people walking down the prom! I need to try again for them this winter as I still haven't got a really good shot.
 
I`m not ignoring you guys, just going up tomorrow to make sure i`m right and that they are still there.

fingers crossed, it would be great to have somewhere closer to home

spent a few hours watching them yesterday, was it worth the 5hrs travelling? yep great to watch, :) now just need to check my pics and see if I got any that are useable. OH and a hello to Targetman who I met yesterday, nice chap
