A couple of questions...

1) Tried it earlier and it allows me to change shutter speed? Why, surely its set at 60fps?

2) Used the 24-70 lens, and on playback the noise of the AF was awful, you could hear the AF as my kids moved and it kept up with them, is that common?

1) No - the framerate is fixed, shutter speed is changeable. If you venture far from 1/2 the framerate (a 50% shutter - aka a 180 degree shutter) you'll either get a lot of motion blur or jerky motion.

2) Dunno - It's never been switched on on any camera I've ever used. Even really fast moving stuff you sea on TV will be manually focused (and manual aperture, zoom and whitebalanced - in realtime)

1) actually the shutter speed should be around 1/double the frame rate, not half i.e. 60fps should be setting shutter speed close to 1/120th, 24/25fps (normal shooting) around 1/50th.

2) Yes, the mic will pick up internal sounds from the camera/lens. DSLR videography (and professional production for that matter) is virtually always done manual focus. Serious videographers invest in equipment to help such as a "follow focus" system but once your used to it you can work the lens focus ring.

Regarding the focus noise issue, the only real solution, is to invest in an external mic.

AF on most DSLRs for video is really pretty useless. I use MF exclusively when filming with my D800/24-70. Shutter speed should be twice your framerate, so for 60fps it should be around 1/120

I experimented with this at my daughter's nativity play last week.....using my D750, 70-200 VR II and an external Rode mic. Was pretty happy with the quality in what was fairly low light. I'd agree on the AF....has to be manual focus. I'd love an external screen/monitor as I think this would help in the focusing tremendously. I've been looking longingly at the Atomos external recorders/monitors....they take a direct feed so better quality that recording to the SD card.
