Hi all I currently shoot my kids 2 football teams, these are 7 year olds which love doing but I've just been allowed to shoot our clubs 1st team.
Now I used to shoot with a Panasonic G5 which I know isn't the best for sports but with the 35-100mm 2.8 lens on if I nailed the focus it turns out some fantastic photos but I didn't get that many keepers so I bought myself a D7000 with the sigma 70-200 2.8 lens.
Now I lov this setup in good light I can nail the focus right through the focal range and the photos I turns out are fantastic but.......! if I'm shooting in poor light/overcast days (during the day) I'm having to bump up the io which is expected.
Now the problem I find in doing this is that if I bump the ISP up past say 640-1600 it's not good at all which has surprised me as I thought the D7000 would be good at this ?
No the first team will be playing Saturday through the day and Tuesday's at night 7.45pm and I'm not sure wether my setup will be upto it or not now I was thinking of upgrading my lens to nikons 70-200 vr1 or vr2 but was wondering wether this will allow me anymore light in even though there the same aperture?

Any advise on this would be great thanks kev

why would 2 lenses with the same max aperture let in any more light :bonk: think about that statement :cuckoo: just up your iso to what you need and get the shots first then do the editing after to sort out the possible noise problem hth mike. also i have some friends at camera club who use this camera and it will go way past iso 1600

My reasoning behind this statement was the qulity of the coatings and the glass that might allow extra light in.

There was method in my madness.

definitely madness, if you think the coatings on a lens will even give you a 10th of a stop which probably wouldn't help anyway. have you got any of the juniors shots taken in bad light to show us what you mean about "poor quality" mike.

Will do but can someone tell me the file size or max resolution that I can use to upload these images as I had problems last time.

Cheers

I have the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 it is a fantastic lens - you don't need to change it to be honest- the ISO noise, can be reduced significantly in PP with Photoshop or even free Noiseware

Link- http://noiseware-community-edition.en.softonic.com/

size of images for upload here is 1040 pixels along the longest side

Les ;)
