Been practicing all morning on shooting on a black vinyl floor with a strobe light and softbox of various objects cos hoping to use it for a baby shoot next week but I can't seem to get a strong clear reflection. If I get the exposure spot on for the object, the reflection is vague. The only way I was getting half decent results was to expose for the object then another and expose for the reflection by opening a few stops.

Anyone ever tried anything like this with success?

I was under the impression that vinyl wasn't very shiny, which will be why you're not getting a strong reflection. Could you post a picture?

The way I've always seen it done before (on paper) is by using sheets of clear acrylic on top of the floor. That will give you a lovely reflection and keep the colour from under it.

Paul, if you have a Flickr account you can use the BB code to load a photo in here, there's a guide in the forum sticky's on how to do it.

As for reflection, if the Vinyl is dull, no matter how much light you blast at it will show any reflection. You need to source an acrylic sheet if you're looking to perform that effect ;)

sorry it is a black reflective acrylic sheet. I'll have to set up a flickr account, thanks
