Looks like I'll be covering the finish at this year's Great North Run - first running even for me so a few questions in general and more specific to anyone who has shot this particular event before.
- I was already planning on going up as my wife is running it so when asked to cover it I wasn't keen on taking a load of kit. Considering 2x1DX paired with a 24-105, and a 70-200 (+ 1.4 and 2x extenders if needed flash etc .. ) Assuming when covering the finish line longer (i.e. 400mm) isn't really needed (although I realise at a push with the 70-200 + 2x I have 400mm ..
- assume I would pick up the necessary accreditation the day before somewhere?
- having watched the race from the finish line last year looks like the photographers are huddled on a platform ... bit of a bun fight for the main runners coming in ...
Any other tips much appreciated
cheers,
Nigel
PS: Great North was my first serious run 4 years ago ... still remember getting to mile 12 only to be presented with a beer by a semi naked (rather large) Geordie lad ... it was so nice I went back for seconds .. and sine then I've made sure to consume a beer on each and every event I do ... even the 70 mile ultras ... it would seem strange not to now
