I've never shot at a gig before and it's something i want to look into.

What Lens' would you say would be best for a gig shoot? I've heard flashes arn't wanted at alot of gigs so i was just curious if anyone know what equpment is best for them?

Thanks

Sorry if anyone disagrees with the placement - but i thought it would be ok as i'm asking about equipment? :S

Welcome to the joys of concert photography, there's no going back now, its the greatest of all photography!

Your going to need a 2.8 lens, if not lower. I see your shooting with a 450d, so get yourself a 50mm 1.8, there cheap as chips and great for low light work. If you have a bit more cash on your hands get yourself a 2.8 zoom, Tamron and Sigma do nice versions or the more expensive Canon version. Flash isnt allowed at most big gigs ( I still have to use it ocasionally though), but in smaller venues its usually allowed, get yourself a flash if you can afford one :)

24-70f2.8. If you cant afford the Canon then the Sigma is a great alternative for it.
Alot of people say the "Nifty Fifty" as its cheap and will step down to f1.8 but i dont like the idea of a prime in a pit or a small music venue.

I agree with that, imo on a cropped camera its too telephoto but its a good starter i think for most

Thanks everyone :) I'll start looking into the lenses now see if i can affored any :) Hopefully i can and can start looking at shooting gigs ASAP :D

I'd seriously look at the Sigma 24-70 f2.8. The optics are impressive and for the price you cant complain!
