Hello folks, I have recently purchased a second-hand Canon EOS10D, and am trying to sort out how to shoot photos in black and white. The user-manual does not refer to this at all. I realise that I can shoot in colour and then convert in 'i photo", but its not quite the same, for a start the displayed image on the screen is in colour, so it isn't possible to assess the result.
Can anyone please assist, or is what I am trying to achieve not possible.

Hi John - I had a 10D a few years back and if my memory serves me correctly you cannot do monochrome with the 10D. However, if I am wrong then you need to go into Picture Controls (or something similar with Canon) where it should say monochrome.
Otherwise you will have to convert to B+W using Photoshop or similar software.

Hi John, welcome to the forum. I shoot a lot of black and white using a digital camera and just shoot in colour then convert in software later. You soon become able to visualise a scene in black and white and can determine whether it works.
 
I want to shout this but won't :)

Do not shoot your images in B&W UNLESS you shoot in RAW!

Shooting RAW gives you a colour image but there's an embedded jpg there too which will be in B&W and will show as a B&W image on the back of your camera.

Creating a B&W image on your computer using photoshop elements for example will provide a far better B&W image than your camera will produce.
 
A very good point and one I should have mentioned.
