I want to shoot a play with a 7d, now theres no problems with the theatre (I'm part of it) but I've not done a lot of video for ages, and very little with the 7d, I'm wondering if I'll encounter any over heating issues shooting the best part of 2 hours with breaks, I'm also a bit concerned about the 4gb limit, thats about 12 minutes of recording, some of the scenes are longer than that.
Any ideas?

You will get breaks if you hit the 4GB limit, so how to deal with it, second camera which can also give you a different angle, shooting 2hours from a static position is not going to make dynamic video. If limited to one camera then perhaps separate audio capture, and get some fill footage, the audience for example to cover the small gaps between each 4GB segment. For a continuous record style shoot a camcorder is a better solution

Magic lantern will defeat the 4gb limit.

If my memory serves, if you hit the 4Gb limit the camera simply starts another folder and continues. Not sure how the camera will take long filming times. Not shot more than about 10 mins without a break on a DSLR.

Bit more research on the 12 min limit, it seems this is a Canon imposed limit. ( Something to do with the buffer, and making sure all the video is on one card not split over 2 ) The EU tax limit is 29'59" Else the camera is classified a camcorder and gets addition taxes ( Don't ask me why, it's the EU)

Many thanks for the info and help everybody, it looks like using dslrs for movie recording is very limited in some respects.
Thanks again.
