I'm heading out shortly to try and shoot a landscape of the moon rising over a church on a hill.

The sky is broken cloudy and the moon should be just past full moon and is set to rise behind the church. I am planning on taking a few shots and trying to blend them together.

Anyone got any tips to save me from disaster?

Multiple exposure!

Around full moon is the best time, sunset and moonrise are at the same time on the day of the full moon.

Only problem is you'd need to expose for landscape at seconds.......

And 250th of second for moon!

By that thread title I thought you had joined NASA.

Maybe light painting the church along with a 2nd exposure for the moon?

No you wouldn't as the sun would still be giving enough light for a decent shutter speed. The day before full moon is even better, the sun would still be up.

I got close to getting my camera out, but my plan fell to bits at the last minute.

I parked up about 15 minutes walk to this church (Leng Memorial Chapel). It's situated on top of a hill in relative countryside, with commonwealth graves built up the hill towards it. The moon was just visible over the horizon.

The heavy cemetery gate swung open with a loud creak, behind them was an outhouse with a dim light on inside and some worn looking curtains drawn. I walked through the cemetery for about 3 minutes and started to feel a bit agitated but pressed on. A few minutes later I realised my agitation was in fact fear, I was totally spooked and ran back to the car like a little girl. I will return one day, but not alone.

^^^^
sounds like a script from a horror movie :)

I drove for an hour before for a midnight hour pitch black shoot at an old abbey ruin......... I couldn't get out of the car......
