Shooting a event soon.

May of seen this in another thread i did earlier today, but I`m concerned about the lighting, I know there will be lights on them whilst they are playing, But i took some pictures in the dark before and a little bit with more light and it has like nearly a 10 second delayed reaction, Is there anything i can do about it

The camera im using is a Nikon D3000
