I've got a normal pair of black shoes, like "oxfords" but with no toecap. Four holes up each side pretty standard you'd think. Anyway the laces were getting frayed where they came through the top holes so I thought I'd just go and buy a new pair.
Took laces out, measured them, 37"/94cm. Right off I go and buy a pair that length then. Forget it. Every supermarket on the shoe polish stand, only 3 lengths none of which came close. Same story Wilkinsons. Got the nearest I could, but longer, to try those. The bows are so large you could get your head through and forever standing on the end of the laces. Ok, try a shoe shop then thinks I. Clarks! They'll have loads. Nope nothing came close and they didnt even have spare laces out on display anywhere.
Ok then, I'll try the shoe repair/timpsons type places. Nearer to the length I require but so flipping thin, feels like they're going to snap every time I tighten them up. Amazon, nothing I could see.
Are we supposed to bin perfectly usable shoes now when we need new laces? Ridiculous.
Rant over.
