Shocking and savage behaviour

As the definition of a misdemeanour is a minor wrongdoing, I'd suggest it's a bit more than that.
I do know a few kids I'd like to see put in cages, but that's a whole other thread.

Sadly its not an unusual situation here in the UK where similar events happen. Not much hits the papers and for some of us whose day job is to see children who have often been battered, burned, raped and on occasions killed, that article will sadden but not surprise. What keeps you sane is the resilience of some of the kids that have been traumatised by adults. Its truly humbling.......

To be fair, the story is vague. No evidence of malnutrition or physical abuse, and these people may not be the monsters they appear to be at first glance.

Ah but people make bad decisions, as you often point out.
I'll wait to see more than "autistic kid in cage" before popping out to buy a new pitchfork.

early indications were that the family might have been having difficulty coping with the boy. "It appeared that as he grew older his episodes of violence and outbursts were increasing and perhaps the parents utilised the cage as a tool to modify that and to contain him when that was happening,"

It's clearly wrong but unless they were getting any serious help, who knows what they were having to endure?

If you can't cope then get help, don't lock your disabled child in a cage. A child with autism will get frustrated and violent because they can't communicate in a typical manner. The parents need help and educating not locked up.
