Hi

I am trying to find out what the best options are for shipping a camera to America.

Does anyone have any experience of this, which courier, insurance, etc.

I have spent the last day trying to go through different couriers such as Parcelforce, Post Office, Parcel2Go without much luck.

Can't say which is best but I seem to remember someone saying in a previous post that Parcel2Go don't insure photographic equipment although it is very hard to find in their t&c.
 
Most couriers will not insure camera gear (due to glass components)... the list of what they won't ship is longer than what they will. Fedex won't insure second hand gear for one.

TBH I'd forget insurgence it adds loads to the price (for DHL its another £20 for £1000 cover), and the chance of anything disappearing is pretty low.
 
I once sent a 300D to America, used RMSD and it cost about £50 if I remember.
 
UPS is the one to use, I've used them twice recently and you even track them on and off the van.

Maybe not the cheapest but as good as you will get.

Parcel2Go do not insure cameras, and others insure by value of contents.

I have contacted the buyer and will let him decide if we continue or not.
 
try pharos parcel they use ups and at a cheaper rate than using ups directly,i use them to send most of my parcels and cheaper than parcel2go,i've used them to send a camera to greece before,it surely shouldn't be a problem if you pack well.

To finalise this thread in case it helps others selling equipment abroad.

I used DHL, booked through parcel2go. It was all quite simple. You input your package dimensions and weight, and choose your option from a few different couriers, DHL, FedEx.

You book your collection date, pay, and by email, you receive a document to fill in about contents, and a Waybill to print and stick on. The Waybill has the tracking number on it. That is it. DHL come and collect and you follow it through the system to collection signature.
