Been feeling rough for a few days and had a small rash, which got bigger. trip to the doc's and get told this. on top of everything else not needed. :nono:

You have my sympathy Terri

Having had shingles myself I know how painful it can be

Aw I hope you feel better soon Terri, its been doing the rounds down here too, a couple of carers have had it and a few of thems kids have chicken pox at present,
 
Had this when I was younger, DO NOT pick at them, I have a permanent scar on my head from picking mine.

thanks guys trying not to scratch. seems there is a fair bit flying about up here too.
 
My sympathies Terri.

My Grandfather had them many years ago and I've never seen him in so much discomfort.

Don't forget everyone, shingles is not a new infection but the reactivation of that dose of chickenpox you had when you were young. It hides out in a nerve and then reactivates when you are tired, run down etc!
 
Had a female friend with benefits called Alison Shingles when I was a lot lot younger. She was also a bit of a pain & all over me like a rash!(true story)

sorry i missed this and have to say yes i was tried and run down but that is another story..
 
Terri, I feel sorry for you, I had it when I was about 14, not nice at all, I remember that my doctor tried a new treatment on me, so I had a jab every day along with steroids for a couple of weeks,
 
Cheers Dave i have the steroids but have to be carefull of what else i have due to other factors.

I'll just have to keep going and get on with it.
 
As Jim (Menthel) points out it is not a new infection, you can't catch shingles so it doesn't actually "do the rounds" in the sense that people are catching it or spreading it around.
Something that can be important that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread is that it is possible to transmit the virus to anyone who has not had chicken pox so they will develop chicken pox.

In a child this is of course a common disease but in adults it can be serious. However it is not that easy to transmit the virus but it still should be known that the possibility exists.

My wife has suffered with Shingles for the past month, she has gone through a lot of pain.

I wish you well that you don't suffer as much.
 
Laurence i understand that hence i am staying away from some friends who have not had chicken pox just in case.

Mike thank you i hope it buggers off soon fed up with it already after just a week. but hay ho people worse off than I

Haha can't say but I have a rough idea.

Sorry to hijack a painfully thread but the current Mrs B & I went round her house for dinner just before we got married many years ago & it was embarrassing -she made it so obvious what she wanted for pudding!

Get well soon & whatever you -do not scratch the itch!

You have my sympathy. Had them recently after my immune system plummeted after major surgery. Very painful. Doctor told me that you must seek medical advice within 72 hours of the first sign of any rash/blisters etc to be able to start the anti-viral tablets.
Hope it clears up soon.
 
Cheers Carla. Been to the doc's and have to go back today too. I have underlying health issues but I'm not too bad at the moment.

As i keep saying to myself there are allot of people allot worse of than me.
