Sharpening issue

Maybe I am missing something but I have a photo which is quite sharp but needs a very small crop about 5% yet once the crop has been applied and I resize to show on TP, I sharpen slightly because photobucket softens images slightly, But then it starts to look pixelated on the edges.
The image is a 20mb raw converted to a jpeg any ideas

Are you viewing at 100%? sharpening in photoshop doesn't show properly otherwise (although it's not too bad if you use 50% or 25%) at the in-between sizes it really doesn't display it properly.
Also you should ideally sharpen at the finished size rather than sharpening then downsampling.

Do they look pixelated before of after photo buckets?. Can you post a shot for us to see what your getting?

I see what you mean, but i think the main cause of the pixellation is photobucket compressing the file.

I dont host any photography pics on photobucket any more, they all go on Flickr

This is the same on my PC before going to photobucket and its happening at all file sizes from 2mb to 20mb .....help

Another vote for not using Photobucket, stick to something like Flickr that won't alter your files.

Just to clarify, are you sharpening as part of your processing then cropping, resizing for TP, sharpening again, then uploading?

Photobucket does the same to my images although it doesn't matter to me as I only use it for showing photos online

It looks lighter as well. When your cropping what resolution are you using? are you just cropping the original smaller or are you using a preset or the original image option.

I have never seen this happen before with any of my images on photobucket?

I just sharpened and saved the unsharpened image you posted, popped it up to photobucket and then linked to here, I do not see any change in colour or the "odd" markings along the wing. How did you sharpen the image?
