Severn Bore's 52 for 2016

Hi Dark Night
Firstly, thanks for your support.
I did not realise you have to join Pinterest to obtain a BB code, but I have done this and have acquired a code. Now trying to remember how to set up threads and links with help from the guidance from Cobra. Sadly, my grey matter is rapidly turning to slush, but please bear with me and I will get there in the end.:(

I like the PP on the second. Did you deliberately leave that spot of rust? on the concrete?

Hey Andrew, like you mouring image. Nice selective colour. Good luck completing your 52

Selective colour is not always my bag but in this case, it works. I like how the rust is emphasised against the mono bg; it helps draw attention to the subject and the textures.

Good luck with the 52

Hi Steven. Both excellent shots but my preference is for #2 - the anchor ring. I'm not overly bothered by selective colouring but the green/red complimentary colours may have worked as well. Bravo:clap:

Both great images, I like the processing you have done to the mile post but for the selective color I would have been tempted to tone down the saturation rather than kill it completely, grass never looks right if it isn't green imo.

Hi Simon, I'm not a fan of selective colour and while you have done something a bit different to the usual 'pop' thing here, I'm STILL not a fan of it :D However, just because I don't like it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it of course, it's spot on for theme and I can see you have put a bit of work into this so hats off to you. See you next week? - oh hang on it's already next week  sorry for the slow comments! :cow:

welcome back Andrew

Old is a beaut, love the dof, the way the post stands out from the BG. I'm from that part of the world and have never noticed these. Must pay more attention.

Metal ... excellent SC job with serious colour & texture.

Hi All,
Thanks for the comments - always welcomed.
My "Captive" picture, below, features one of the boats that were beached on the banks of the River Severn at Purton near Berkeley, Gloucestershire. They were placed there in the 1950's to early '60s to help shore up the bank between the river and Gloucester - Sharpness Canal. In the early days there were complete ships and it was quite a spectacle, but they have since been vandalised and weathered to the state that they are mere shadows of themselves. Nevertheless, still worth a visit.

You got there in the end Andrew
Thats a sad story about captive, but a nice image, well spotted and taken

Interesting take on the theme with a good story, well captured, nice tonal range

What a great photo for captive, stuck in the mud! Really sharp detail on the side of the boat. Perfect execution of B&W with such a lovely back ground.

Good luck in the upcoming weeks,
Oscar

It's nice to see some outside of box thinking for the theme, I really your captive shoot that boat is going nowhere :)

Great idea Andrew, the story is really interesting and helps understand your choice of shot for the theme. Really like the processing on this image plenty of texture and contrast.

hello and nice to see you back doing the challenge again.

Old - a nice well taken and thought out image and love your reason for choosing the image.

Metal - a simple but yet effective image that works well for the theme.

Captive - A stunning image no crit from me.

I Knew about the concrete barges that had been sunk to shore up the banks, but hadn't heard that normal barges had been sunk too.
Nice gritty shot, the B&W processing suits it well. (y)

It's nice to see and get the story behind historical things like this. Great image - love b&w ... as always, excellent take.

I like all your pictures so far.
good to know the history behind the boat shot

Three really strong images

Old: Really like this love the colours and certainly fits the theme

Metal: Fantastic image and use of selective colour (really must learn how to do this) really suits this image imo if it had of been either colour or B&W it wouldn't have been as stong

Captive: Simply stunning image and somewhere I want to visit

Nice colours. At first glance I had assumed that you had placed these on the wall for the photo but looking closer it seems they are fixed on. I like the bright red of the left one compared to the worn/weathered one on the right. The gnome made me smile as well.

Hi Andrew. Beautiful bright colours and an idyllic scene with those thatched cottages. Nicely sharp and lovely DoF

I'm not terribly keen on the concrete post and barbed wire, but as Steve said, they appear fixed so not a great deal you could have done about it.
Nice idea though well spotted and captured (y)

Great colours and sharpness/DoF. Well spotted! (y)

I have to agree with Cobra, the post & wire don't help the shot. There is a crop / recompose in there though.
Nice sharp and bright colours, and the blur in the background helps the overall miniature impression.

Hi Andrew

Captive ... just about on theme. ;) ... most dramatic.

Miniature ... what fun!
