Setting camera to save Raw and JPG - how does lightroom classic deal with that scenario?

Yes
Going to shoot an event later this week where I may need to process stuff quickly.

Knowing how crap the combination of lightroom classic, my laptop and 45mp raws is I am going to set my camera to save Raw and JPG.

I am just wondering how lightroom classic will deal with this scenario. In an ideal world I want it to be able to apply any exposure edits I make to the JPG to the raw or vice verse, either later or in real time.

That way I can process the JPGs and get them out, then once I get home jetisen this JPGs totally and keep the RAWs with the same edits.

Feasible? Unfortunately I haven't got much time to test this week to learn by trail and error.

apologies if this has been asked before.

They should be seen as 2 different images since the suffix denoting filetype will be different. If you sort by 'time' then the images should appear together in the gallery view.

In the Edit Preferences you can set

"Treat JEG files next to raw files as sepertae photos"

You will then get the RAW and JPG imported into lightroom and you can copy edited Settings between them. Right Click on Image select (Develop Module) Settings > Copy Settings and on target Settings > Paste Settings

There will of courdse be more exposure latitude in the RAW so the JPG may go blocky or blown far easier than teh RAW file.

Thanks - appreciate the EXtention is different so they will be different files and could well just copy the settings over myself anyway but on 2000 plus photos that feels very manual

Is there not a way for lightroom to treat them as one? And automatically apply adjustments I make to both

I regularly shoot both JPG and RAWs, or small JPG and big JPG together, but I prefer to keep them seperate. My cameras have dual card slots, so I record JPG to one card and RAW to the other. I import them to lightroom in seperate folders, both clearly identified. I also use a handy plug in called Syncomatic which allows me to sync develop and flag/label/keyword settings from one folder to the next by matching filenames.

If you only have one card slot, and you need to process really quickly, I would manually copy from camera by sorting by file extension and drawing off JPGs first, and import from the laptop location, otherwise you'll be waiting unnecessarily importing RAWs which could be left for later.

Syncomatic: https://www.photographers-toolbox.com/products/jbeardsworth/syncomatic/ - €9 but for me its paid for itself over and over.

Yeah, that might be the solution.... The plugin sounds could

Could I use that plugin retrospectivly? I.e leave the RAWs on the camera and then pull them down later and sync.

My camera also has 2 card slots but the second is a CFexpress. I looked at the prices of the CFexpress cards and decided I'd stick with 1 card...!!!!

Yes, you can use the plug in retrospectively. It also won’t live sync the two sets of images though.

Keep an eye out for a cheap CFExpress card as being able to use both slots makes jobs like this so much easier.

If speed is a factor I work off the jpegs, if it's quality I'd use the raw. As the raw are different I'm not seeing an easy way to just "dial in" the jpeg setting. There might be presets for your camera model online somewhere.
I would try shooting something with both raw and jpeg, open the both, match the raw to the jpeg as best you can and save that as a preset if all else fails. Then apply that to all the raw, it might get you close.
Modern jpegs are pretty good, in your case I'd personally just work off the jpeg. Most people will never know the difference.

Covering news I will shoot both raw and jpg to different cards. If the lighting is suitable just quick edits of the jpg's, and if the image quality were to be marginal reduce to 4000 or 3000 pixels on longest side, and use photo mechanic for adding IPTC that has been prepared in advance.
