Hi all,I'd like some advise on the above if anyone would like to help me out.
The problem I seem to have is nailing a shoot in a burst.
I seem to get in focus shots say in shot 1&2 but then I seem to loose focus unto say shot 7-8 and but then I've missed the shot that I wanted.?
I use af to focus my shots using my back focus button.
I don't really have and issues wile I'm shooting a game in general just when it comes to this.

Any advise to improve would be great

Cheers kev

have you got it on single servo or the other one (cant remember the name)

All cameras are different.... give us a clue what your using.....

Also....7 and 8 frame? you shouldnt be a#taking that big a burst for a penalty.. My normal is 2 ... sometimes 3 and the only time I go mad is in a celebration type shot..

Morning kipax

Camera used Nikon D3
Lens sigma 70-200 & nikon 28-70
Sometimes I use a 1.4 tele.

I'm don't normally spray like that but I find it slightly awkward getting the right angle for the shot.
If I'm side of goal I only seem to get the person taking the penalty and not the goal keeper which doesn't tell the story for me.
If I'm behind goal with the sigma lens the camera seems to focus on the netting, I have another lens I can use but I only have one body so don't really have time to swap lenses.
So I normally take the shot from the halfway line which gives me the shot but not at the angle I would like.

I thought about a pocket wizard and setting the camera up behind goal with my wide angle lens for a wile to see what I could get then revert back to my sigma say the second half.
I thought about buy the sigma 120-300 with the 1.4 tele so I could side along side the opposite goal to get the angle I like.
Don't think I'm buying this lens just for this type of shot,I can't afford a nikon 300 or 400 so thought this might be the next best thing considering my budget.

Thanks again all kev.

The normal penaly shot is to the side of the net (depending on left or right footer)... you dont usualy get the keeper as well... to get player face on and keeper then the shots too wide..

ps i ahvent got a nikon so cant comment on...

Can I ask kipax, In that situ would you lock your focus on the penalty taker on say af single or would you leave it on continuous and let the camera do the work.

Cheers kev.

Not quite sure how your approaching focus here... never ever use manual focus for fast moving field sports.... so in this situation.. aim at penalty taker and focus.. juts like any normal shot.. you should be able to focus and shoot and the camera hold focus as he moves... again not quite sure what your doing :)

What I ment is, changing from af continuous to af single just for penalty kicks or to use focus lock as with a penalty / free kick taker there stationary for a short time before moving or am I over complicating things and should I just stick with continuos af.

I never use manual focus for sports I'm not that good.

Cheers kev

even if if he stationary for a second.. then he will move! and its when they are moving you want to take the picture.. continuos af also works on stationary subjects :)... plus dont you want his reaction when he scores.. you havent time to change settings and you want him with arm raised..hopefully running towards you.......so yeagh your over complicating things :)

Just trying to cover all bases as you know how much I'll advise you can sometimes pick up and I know your a man in the know.

I just feel now that I'm at a level were I'm just trying to iron out the creases and improve my shots that bit more.

Cheers kev.

Thats why I am answering.. always happy to help if I can.. but beware I am not the expert.. theres always more than one way to approach a situation.. others may have luck doing it a different way.. I can only say what works for me and what I know is the norm for most situations :)

Cheers kipax I really appreciate your prompt advise.

I'm shadowing a photographer from Barnsley fc in pre season for a bit so should be able to tweak my skills there.

Thanks again. Kev
