Can anyone help - a guy at work is trying to set a gif transparent in paint.net with no joy whatsoever.

We've tried this:

Open up your image. Save it as a gif.
In the Tool section, use the "Magic Wand" feature.
Set it's tolerance to '0%'
Drag it over the section you want to make transparent. The magic wand catches an entire region of adjacent, same-color-range, pixels
Once the region is selected, then hit the delete key. [Updated 12/11/2007]

from http://timstall.dotnetdevelopersjournal.com/making_a_transparent_gif_with_the_free_paintnet.htm

but it hasn't worked, any idea what we might be doing wrong?

TIA

Well, I have tried it with paint.net 3.36 by simply creating a new image, using the wand to select something and pressing delete and it worked, the deleted area got transparent.
It seems that if you change the Flood mode to global, it'll select colours within that tolerance in the whole image.

I'm not sure whether this was of any help, but maybe you could try it in steps I described above and report back?

Thanks - have passed on the instructions to him, we'll give it a go :D

Sorry, I haven't replied, I don't know if he got it to work actually as I had to get on with some other reports, then he was out of the office Friday. I shall ask him tomorrow when I'm back in the office (working fom home today)
