Might be a silly question would a 70-200 f4 none is canon lens have a serial number?

I have this lens and just trying to sale it as I've upgraded and someone has asked for the serial number so he can date it, I've looked all over the lens and all I can find is a 6 figure number, this number doesn't match up with the examples he showed me to help me locate it on my lens (hope that makes sense).

I'm the 2nd owner of this lens so I'm not sure of the age.

Thanks Mickey.

Serial number is different to date of manufacturing code.

The code is typically as far as I know stamped on the black part of the Mount, have a look here for a guide

Another that looks more detailed

Thank you,
I've found the date code it's exactly where you said, I've also worked out the date with the guide you posted.

Top work thank you very much Mickey
