ok i have dust on my sensor and its driving me nuts. i have tired a lens pen sensor kleen kit and few times and cant seem to remove all the dust.

Other than paying to have it cleaned has anyone got any suggestions on how to get rid of it??

There's so many different ways to tackle the job. Have a read through this article by a camera technician before you decide how to do it and what method to use.

CLICKY

Personally, I don't like the idea of wetting loose dust and turning it into sludge which can cause smearing, so I opted for the Arctic Butterfly dry static brush system, but it's personal preference really. I'll use a wet system when I have what the pros call 'welded' dust which is more stubborn.

Before I bought the AB I was spotting out bogies all the while, but now I rarely see any and I've only used it a couple of times.

thanks CT i read the clicky. i'm guessing what i have is welded dust as it wont come off with either the rocket blower or sensor kleen pen. what wet method do u use? im thinking i need to get rid of that dust but might invest in an AB there apear to be quite a few do u know the difference??

Are you sure the dust is on your sensor and not the mirror? Only checking.

Do you see the dust in the viewfinder or on the actual image? If it's on the image then the mirror isn't the problem. Have you done a test shot at f/22 of a blank wall/sky/etc?

its on the image not the view finder er i can take one

er some resizing issues but u can see the main bits of dust

That's a magnolia wall would u believe??

Does the 350d have a mirror lockup mode?

NEVER use mirror lock up/bulb mode to clean your sensor. Firstly you don't want to clean while the sensor is charged and secondly the if the battery runs out the mirror will close on the cleaning tool and then it's repair time. Sensor cleaning mode checks there's a decent amount of battery power available before letting you start.

Looks like you've got some nasty gunk on there that needs a good couple of wet cleans to shift. Robert P's tutorial is a good method but if you don't feel confident it might be worth seeing if any local camera shops offer the service for peace of mind.

i think part of the problem is i had the camera for 16 months before i even tired to clean it
:( so its well stuck
might get a shop to do it then use the lenspen sensor Kleen a bit more frequently. or get one of those butterfly things to use with the lens pen.

I've not actually had to use a wet cleaning method so far.

The different AB kits are usually down to how many brush attachments come with it. The dearer ones tend to have attachments for cleaning the mirror and focusing screen, but in all honesty, you probably only need the basic one.
