Yes
Now I've gone mac, I'm going to sell my PC to recoup some of the cost.
My neighbour is interested, and has got first refusal, so I need to figure out some sort of price....TBH I have no idea.

Asus M2NPV-VM Mobo, USB2 / FW etc
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (Brisbane) AM2
2 Gig DDR2/800
80Gb HD
Pioneer 115 DVD Re-Writer
Pioneer 109 DVD Re-Writer
Radeon x1650 Pro 512mb GFX Card
...with Arctic Cooling Accelero attached
Logitech Keyboard

What sort of price should I be asking? (No monitor, that's staying as a secondary for my Mac).

For that sort of spec (I'm assuming it's a home-built), around £150. There's just no money in old computers these days.... I had a shufty round the Overclockers UK price checks forums, that seems to be the rate for older Athlon X2 rigs (albeit with more HDD space and better graphics than yours)

I have an X2 5600+/2GB DDR/Radeon X1950Pro, and I'd be lucky to get £150 for it these days....

Presumably you have XP as the operating system, I would say in the region of £170.00- £200.00 .

Bit unrealistic I think - £200 would get you a Core2Duo based system these days. All the cool kids are selling theirs for quad-cored systems these days...

No I don't think so. The neighbour would be buying privately from a known source and therefore he would be quite aware of the machines history.

Buying a unknown 2nd hand pc from a unknown source is always a risky route and hence much lower prices.

At the end of the day, he'll state a price, and it's what his neighbour is willing to pay is what matters ;)

Quite agree with that.

There is also the point that if the price is too low it becomes more realistic to keep the pc as a backup/copying/duplication machine

Well you can get this for £180 at Aria if it helps with pricing.....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ 2.3GHz Processor
AMD 690V Motherboard
ATi Radeon X1250 Graphics (SMA)
2GB PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Memory
200GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive
22X Serial ATA DVD±RW
High Definition 8 Channel 7.1 Sound
1000MBps LAN
Zen Midi Tower Chassis with PSU
This PC comes without an operating system

Like has been said - old PC's are just not worth much these days. I was looking at selling mine and going Mac, but decided to turn it into a Hackintosh instead.

You can get a PC from PC World, complete with monitor for £279, with a slightly better spec. Now as this has no monitor and the buyer would need to buy one say £100. Then I think the kit is worth no more than about £75-£100. Well I wouldn't pay any more than that, but then I'm not in the market for one.

*shudders*...PC World

I need a shower now you've made my thread dirty :p

I've decided to hold off selling mine, and sell him my daughters instead.
It's a less spec, but its fine for what he needs, and will only be beer money. Also he has a Wacom Bamboo tablet, and I have the Medion with funny mac drivers, and for what he needs it for, the Medion will do him fine, so I'm going to come to some arrangement where we swap tablets, which he's happy with. (He gets a bigger tablet too lol)

How much will a Sinclair Spectrum with a 48K RAM Pack fetch???

Far more than an Athlon X2 system ;)

I have a mint 48k (rubber keyboard) with dedicated tape deck AND Kempston joystick... And the best part of 300 games for it:)

he'd probably give you a reply if he wasn't still waiting for dizzy the egg to load, check back in a week for a response :)

 Nah, I think he's waiting for 'Jet Set Willy' to load!

Oh no!!! He's knocked the cable.......and has to rewind the tape and start again!

sorry to say m8, i built a new pc with same spec as yours a few months ago and it came to £165 all new so you really are looking at closer to £100 without waranties etc.

its sad but its true.

If 1 of those Games is Elite then consider it sold...:D:D
Oh..how i miss those 48 to 72 hour sitiings playing that game on a speccy.

You could use it as an addition TP server *ducks*

More seriously, it's still a pretty reasonable office machine/basic multimedia machine, if you won't sell, you can fairly easily turn it into a multimedia player one of your rooms. I'm not sure which remote control you'd have to buy, so that would be one thing to explore, but with e. g. Geexbox, you can turn it into a VERY versatile movie and mp3/ogg/flac/ac3/aac player. It works fairly well for older PCs (under 1GHz, Pentium class, nvidia/ati gfx card).

 I've tried selling mine on ebay but they keep pulling the ad :D

The rig is not worth more than £150, and you'll be lucky to get close to that. £120 ,max will be your start price I'd say...
