Someone in China with 1200 positive feedback has just bought a £1000 camera body off me with Buy It Now. I put No International Sales on the ad but he didn't see it and wants to know the postage.

Does anyone know the best way to send this and how to take his money? I don't think Paypal will release his funds to me until they receive positive feedback from him. Should I do BACS instead?

Many thanks for any help. Kim

I don't think I would bother. Too much uncertainty etc. If you had UK only in your listing then I reckon you should just cancel it.

A lot of money to lose out on

I don't think Paypal will release his funds to me until they receive positive feedback from him.

Why do you say that?

Paypal would be the safest way to take his money.
Although why has someone from Chine bought your camera, when China is probably the cheapest place to buy electronics from!

On certain electrical goods over a certain value, Paypal won't release the funds until the buyer tells them he's happy. It's happened to me a few times.

I've told him he can buy it cheaper over there but he still wants it. So Paypal is safer than a bank transfer?

What if the camera turns up damaged? I sold an expensive telly once to Spain and the guy reckons the screen was cracked when it turned up. That was a right palava.

I would definitely not send it. Far too much risk. If he's really desperate for it tell him to send cleared funds in advance by a non returnable method.

There is no way Paypal is safest, there are numerous reasons why they can effect a charge back and your money will be gone!

I've had this a few times from new sellers in messages saying until i leave + feedback PP hold the funds:thinking:

it needs to be sent track-able international that's the only way you will get protection from PP e-bay,

if you sell anything else look for countries to which i will not post, it was obviously open to them to buy, if you stated in your listing it was UK only that may help the case further.

The listing said UK Bidders Only and the postage said No International Postage, but the bloke pressed the Buy It Now button all the same and now wants an invoice.

run for the hills
get it relisted as you said uk only i have had the same in the past

I would say the risk is probably 25% that you will lose out.

If it was a UK only auction, you have every right to refuse to supply.

The Paypal option does not reduce your risk. I have had one or two similar sales where Chinese buyers will claim the item was faulty and that they can get it repaired locally for £££ so if you dont want negative feedback then refund them a proprtion of the money.

Mark it as a none paying buyer so you dont get charges fees, then relist making sure you add Strictly UK only to the listing.

He says he can't find one for this price in China and will pay the £80 shipping. Seems crazy.

If he is willing to pay make some terms. Like you will not be responsible for it arriving damaged. Take photos of it packaged to show it was well done and send him the photos.

I don't understand the paypal thing you mention as I have never had that happen to me before. So I personaly would ask for bank transfer then he can't open a dispute with you through paypal.

Personaly I would take his money and if you get a negative put a responce after with a link to the pictures of postage etc to show its unjust.

dont do it seriously if you want to looses £1000 then by all means go for it

speak to ebay and tell them and they will cancell the auction

put him on your blocked buyers list so he cant do it again and if he leaves neg feedback again contact ebay

Personally I wouldn't take the risk and you have the right to not sell it to him if you said UK only on ebay.

Thanks guys. I've re-listed it now.

Blimey, it's now been sold to a different buyer.

Must have been too cheap.

Next time remember to set it to appear only ebay.co.uk (IE no international postage) and set the buyer requirements to Block buyers in countries where you don't post - that way even if a buyer visits through ebay.co.uk they can't buy an item unless they're registered here.

As far as the sale goes, I've succesfully sold a lot of lenses to the far east, One went to somewhere i nBurma, the buyer supplied a JPEG of his address in whatever the burmese language is, could well have been made up for all I knew but it got there oK.

if he's got good feedback I see no reason to worry, just make sure you sent it with tracking/adequate compensation set and keep all the proof of the transaction you can.

Thanks a lot.
That Preferences link is incredibly useful. I didn't know it existed.Cheers.
