Yes
i have had my conference licence now for over a year,
now last year it covered football games and paper's wanted my photos,

but this season i am phoning newspapers if they want a game covered from the conference league and they all said no have no budget,

was going on,
every paper can't be that hard up,

if the papers don't want your photos the where do you sell them to

Simple really, they keep saying no budget because they know eventually someone will give them away for free

as said, people give there pictures away free and papers will wait for someone to do just that to save money

seen it a few times this season already, stand out a mile in the regionals as there are names next to the credit pictures, any paid for have no name

If a paper has "no budget" then stay firm and don't give a picture away, if you do it once they will expect it and never pay

... stand out a mile in the regionals as there are names next to the credit pictures, any paid for have no name...

Sorry Steven, that's just not true. It's down to the policy of the paper in question and whether or not you've stated mandatory credit (not always honoured). The non credits are more likely to be staff photographers.

Agree with Mark on this one (shall we get married) i usually get credited in Yorkshire/Evening Post and other local and regional papers if working freelance but not usually if working for agency, all down to the paper.

Perseverance is the key. Most regionals will say they have no budget but stick to your guns. If covering for the Non League paper you will be paid anyway so further sales are a bonus.

Ah must just be up here then, Saw several with picture - john smith for example, yet the paid ones I have done = no name in there, others will be paid, others staff togs

Aye. Thou're reet strange oop north! :D

Do you include the line: Mandatory Credit Required

in your IPTC by the way? It doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot.
