Hello.

After seeing how expensive it is to advertise a car for sale (family has always used dealers/had company cars) I'm trying to decide whether to advertise my car for sale on Autotrader or just put it on Ebay for a week. It is only a 9 year old Focus so nothing special or particularly valuable but need it gone by the end of the month (although preferably within the next 10 days).

Where have you sold cars on? How long did it take to sell on Autotrader? Had any problems selling a car on ebay?

Cheers.

Ebay is probably your best bet for something of that age, as long as you're realistic with your pricing and are happy with essentially the "trade" price for it

The other option is to talk to a local auction house where you can put a reserve on the vehicle and amy get more than you had hoped for.

If selling privately please be aware of scams and ALWAYS keep your keys in you hand if going for a test drive, the number of people who haev their car stolen while swapping drivers isn't funny!

In terms of payment beware of both cheques and bankers drafts as they are as bad as each other, cash is king lol!

Good luck with the sale :)

I've always found ebay really good, cars I've sold have made much more than I was expecting.

You will get lots of people asking how much you want for a quick sale - dont under sell it as there are lots of chancers!

I sold my last car through pistonheads , it's free, you have to be realistic with the pricing though or you're wasting your time.

if you go down that route (which can be the quickest way to shift a car) remember you'd have an entry fee plus commission to pay if the car sells...

I have it on there, but it is on page 32! :( Pricing is very realistic. Possibly a bit lower comparing other similar cars.

Will be wanting cash to buy my next car with so no worries there.

So far Ebay is sounding like the best bet. Think I will just put it on there tomorrow.

I'm a bit late to reply, but my experience seems to mirror everyone else's that Fleabay actually works!

Autotrader always seems painfully slow to sell; I have bought from there though FWIW, and cheaply.

And, in my experience, Pistonheads is really just a dating site for know alls - and I found I didn't fancy any of them!:exit:

Sold two cars through ebay, had no problems with viewings, feedback, etc. I always go overboard with the advert, lots of information and photographs, etc, leaving the bidders in now doubt as to the condition of the car.

Im looking to buy a car at the moment, which car are you looking to sell?
