Hi All

As per the title .

What are the requirements for Posting a camera from Northern Ireland to mainland UK that includes the Battery in the package ?

Was wondering about restrictions "If any" as I know that in the past, posting items that include Batteries must be declared with some couriers, while different couries wont accepet any Items with batteries included in the package at all ?

For instance lets say the good old Royal Mail - do they accept items posted from within the UK that have batteries included ?

I think the Battery Issue came to a head when some of the Lithium type batteries started to catch fire in certain phones a few years back

Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated - Thank You in advance

In the past I've sent stuff with batteries via Royal Mail and their policy seems to be that if the battery is part of the equipment in the package (i.e. a battery installed in a camera) then it's okay. Most couriers will have an exclusion list on their website (including Royal Mail) that should clarify matters. One of my local Post Offices always ask what the package contains but they are the exception, most couriers don't seem to ask.

From Royal Mail's exclusion list:

Prohibited items: Batteries that are classified as dangerous goods and certain used batteries (Including wet spillable lead acid/lead alkaline batteries (such as car batteries), used alkaline metal, nickel metal hydride (NiMH), nickel cadmium (NiCd), zinc-air batteries, solo lithium batteries, power banks and damaged batteries of any type). Batteries, specifically new and used lithium batteries when not sent with or connected to an electronic device (Including power banks)

Accepted items: Batteries, specifically new alkaline metal, nickel metal hydride (NiMH), nickel cadmium (NiCd), zinc-air and zinc chloride Packaging guidelines: Must be new and sent unopened in their original retail packaging. Surround with cushioning material e.g. bubble wrap.

In addition to what Mark has posted, you're allowed to send one lithium battery in the camera and two more in the package but you should tell the PO counter staff that your package contains lithium batteries so they can slap warning stickers on it. This ensures that that it travels by land rather than by plane which is when lithium batteries are considered dangerous.

Exactly right ↑

I also believe the batteries should also be packed so that they cannot be short circuited, so basically covered in some way.
This is exactly the same as carrying batteries in cabin luggage on a plane, I use the plastic change bags from banks.

I use the waste bags that came with lateral flow tests.
