Selfies...love or loath them?

I've got no problem with selfies however I do not like those selfies. Or to be more accurate the people who operate then without any regard to their surroundings.
 
Like them or loathe them, that man's clearly a f'ckwit.
 
What harm does taking selfies do? I have too much respect for my equipment to risk cracking the lens taking pics of myself but if others want to do the selfie thing it's fine with me in most situations. Where it's not acceptable is when the act show disrespect to others e.g. Camerons selfie at Mandelas funeral, it's not the selfie at fault there but the selfish.
