Hi

Not sure if that's the correct term, but using cs4, what's the best way to lighten a face?

The person was wearing a flurescent jacket which is more or less correctly exposed but the face is a little dark.

So what's the best way to lighten the face without losing quality etc as the photo will be blown up quite large.

One method I use, which can be used to lighten and/or darken areas of a picture is quite easy.

Create a new layer above your image layer

Fill this layer with a 50% grey - Edit/fill from the menu

At this point you will only see the grey layer. Change the blending mode of this layer to overlay, and your original image layer will reappear.

Now comes the clever bit. Choose a soft edged brush, sized to whatever is appropriate for the work you are about to do. Set the opacity of the brush to around 10% - lower for really delicate touches, or more for greater effect. Be aware if the first pass of the brush is too subtle, you can make several passes to build up the effect.

Select and use white for areas that you wish to lighten, and select black for areas that may need darkening.

If you are using 10% opacity, you may need to make a few passes to obtain the desired result.

there are lots of ways to do this One way might be to make two layers of the same image and adjust for the two parts of the image on each layer and then mask the top layer to show the bottom layer
Flatten and save
Best if raw but you can do it with a jpg
