Hi all

Back for more advice I'm afraid - ages ago I posted about getting a blackmagic pocket 4k video camera and tripod recommendations - after a lot of saving I did end up with a pocket 4k and a gopro. For the most part I love both - the BM Pocket4k camera is great for video, not so good with stills - the gopro is great for general purpose video and is also really good at night - as long as you're doing a long exposure shot (i,e it's rubbish for video in low light, but long exposure photos i.e light trails are really good).

I'm wondering about getting something inbetween, that can be used for a reasonable quality video recording (full HD if not 4k) but also with the capability to do reasonable stills but with a larger sensor and changable lens compared with the gopro. I am thinking of taking a short trip to scotland early next year to to some timelapse video and night sky stills so it's going to be a bridge between the gopro and the pocket 4k and a 'jack of all trades' affair really. The likely use case are for video clips alongside the pocket 4k and to be used for scenic landscape and timelapse stills particularly at night.

My budget wouldn't be high, be looking at MPB and other used photography gear sides and probably be around the 4-500 mark. I was looking at DSLR's like the Nikon D5600 which, whilst obviously not cutting edge today seem to be quite capable and available at a reasonable price point, online video reviews dont seem to give it a bad rep either apart from knocking on a bit - but what do I know :D that is why I'm here.

I just thought I'd ask see if anyone has any specific recommendations or ideas to share or consider before making a choice. Thoughts welcome!

Panasonic G80, or G9 if you can stretch the budget slightly.

Electronic shutter is good for timelapse, especially if it involves hundreds or thousands of exposures

Thaks for the suggestions so fast - some good looking suggestions there, specially the Olympus :O

I'm an Olympus user.

You won't go far wrong with the Olympus or the G series from Panasonic that Steve has suggested.

If you like night shooting look into the Olympus LiveBulb, LiveTime and LiveComposite features.

They are superb and available on the EM1 MK2 (I used to have this camera and only sold as had upgraded to the EM1X).

Thanks for that feedback, I think someone had better get their christmas spending arranged :D - I thank you (all!)
