hello peeps im wanting a second camera body main reason for the body is to save changing lens im more than happy with my 7d mk ii its more than a match for my camera skills.
my thinking is get a second 7d mk ii and id rather like the 1.4 mk iii extender too
im just a keen amateur I like taking my camera out on walks for random photos but I also ( mainly ) use it for birds with my 100-400 mk ii hence the new extender.
I keep looking at the 5d mk iii to maybe try a bit of Full Frame, but then I'm thinking of the different settings etc if I get the 7d mk ii things will be more straight forward.
I'm probably answering my own question :help:

I bought a 5D3 to go with my 7D2. They complement each other nicely and the controls are very similar; I have no difficulty switching between the two.

The 1.4 Mkiii is superb on the 100-400 Mkii - well worth the investment.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy another 7d mk ii

Ditto... Great combo...

I went on safari last year with my 5D3 and borrowed a 5D2 as a back up, it caused quite a few problems for me as it just wasn't intuitive to use. To be fair I didn't get the body until 1 hour before our flight so had no time to get used to it. I've now bought a second 5D3 myself and it's a much better set up with the menus set exactly the same. So my opinion keep to 7DII's or go the whole hog and get two 5D3's which you may not of considered.

Thanks for the comments I went for the two same body's to avoid all the confusion of have i got the right lens on the right body I've ordered a new 7d mk ll today along with grip spare battery 2 x 32 gb cf cards and a new mkiii extender

Yes 2 identical bodies is easiest but a 5d3 and a 7d2 are near as the same to use it makes no difference.

I had the above combo and wished id kept it. Wanting my back up camera to also be full frame I changed the 7d2 for a 6d and the buttons do catch me out at times.

If you are dedicated to one type of photography then 2 identical cameras is best. If the 7d2 is the best tool for the job then get another. If the full frame which will give you an alternative wider field of view and better image quality but slower fps and more cost will encourage you to diversify then there are bonuses of that option too.
