couple of questions bought it of fleabay incase my d90 gets damaged or i get problems with any of the other cameras im taking, just wondering whether anyone has ever used this camera , what its quality is like underwater, pics would be fantastic, also more importantly as to be honest ive never used a film camera , what type of films do i buy for it

thank you

The biggest problem with underwater photography is lack of light and the variance of light at differing wavelengths at different depths. Most underwater pictures look very blue/green due to the lack of red light which does not travel through water quite so well.

The second problem is detritus which is bits in the water.

They are both helped dramatically by the addition of an expensive external flash mounted on an arm so as to avoid light bouncing back from the detritus to the camera. So unless you plan on taking all your pictures in 6 meters or less I would budget for the flash.

When I was diving a few years ago I managed to get a decent underwater camera but couldn't afford the flash and ended up selling it.

I have one sitting up in the attic. Used to run it on Velvia slide film until I went digital. Cowasaki is right, you need an external flash mounted as far away from lens as possible (Google 'backscatter').

The interchangable lenses are 'wet-fit' meaning you can change them underwater and they (the interchangable lenses) wont work in air as they are corrected for use underwater.

Don't forget that it is a range finder and completely manual. I learned photography the hard way with one of these :shake:

The MM2 is a totally bomb proof camera.

think i should share these here.

some pictures i took in the bahamas on my wedding, underwater in january, i had to scan these as it was a film camera, so they didnt come up as brilliant to share online as they do in my book
