Any suggestions on a CF adapter that will enable SD cards to be used within them? I’ve got one I used for my 30D, however upon trying to fit it in my D750, the card is just too fat? I thought CF card slots were the same, but it wouldd seem not! If anyone knows of a CF adapter that work withs the Nikon D750, would be much appreciated!

I thought the speed differences meant they weren't worthwhile and it was better to buy CF cards?

There have always been two thicknesses of CF card, known as Type I & Type II. If you look on eBay you'll find plenty of the thinner Type Is. Type II was very little used but I think I still have an IBM Microdrive somewhere which is a whole gigabyte in capacity....

Ah!! Never knew! Thank you! In terms of speed, I’m not fussed, I don’t do video so never seem to notice a decrease in speed - just preferred as I can drop the SD card straight into my mac.

Cheers

Have a look in your manual regarding the card specs. The manual for my D70S shows what manufacturers CF cards they recommend for the camera.
I found 2 x 4gb Sandisk Extreme lll for mine and they fit and work perfectly.

I've used them in various older cameras. They don't cause any problems in the Canon 5D, 20D, 40D or the 1DS II.

I've got a better solution ... upgrade your Mac to a nice new MacBook Pro ... then neither CF nor SD will drop straight in so you can use CF without any extra inconvenience. :)

Surprised nobody else has pointed out the obvious difficulty in using CF cards in a camera that uses SD cards...

FWIW, AIUI SD/CF adaptors that allow you to use SD cards in cameras that accept CF cards work OK - but slow things down a bit. Firstly because SD cards are slightly slower than CF ones to write to and secondly because the extra circuitry in the adaptor slows everything down a bit too. Given that memory cards are so cheap now (compared to 10 or so years ago!), it's probably best to use the correct cards rather than using an adaptor.

There is one advantage to using a SD card in an adapter: I can't think of a single laptop that has a CF card slot but many these days are equipped with a SD slot, so no need for a reader to transfer your pictures. A small thing really but the small things are often the most valuable to a user.
