Hi guys. I meant to order this SD card, shot speeds up to 80MB/s, transfer speeds up to 170MB/s with Rescue Pro,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ex...p-B09X7DY7Q4/dp/B09X7DY7Q4/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

but I accidentally ordered this with shots 70MB/s, transfer 150MB/s,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H42L4TJ/ref=pe_27063361_487055811_TE_dp_2

Both basically the same price. The one I intended to order is the newer and slightly faster card, the 170MB/s one, for my Ricoh GR3.

It's just been delivered. I'm not sure if I should be bothered enough to return it for the newer one, if there'll be a particularly noticeable performance difference?

If you shoot video and/or machine gun, saving raw and JPEG files, you'll possibly notice the difference, otherwise, probably not.

In the real world, no difference. In a laboratory setting, maybe a small difference.

Thanks guys. Well I shoot raw only but on this camera it only does 4fps burst rate and I think I'll mostly be doing single shots, particularly as I intend to use it with my new flash. I don't do video either. So yeah, it sounds like this card will be fine. I do have a Sandisk 170MB/s card in my Sony a6600 so I suppose I could always swap between them if needed. (y)

GR3 has a maximum write speed capability of 54.59mbs.

So any cards that can accomade up to 60mbs will work just as well as quicker cards that can do 120mbs 200mbs etc.

Excellent, thanks. (y) This card does 70mbs write speed so we're all good. Read speed I suppose refers to how fast it reads with my SD card reader in my PC, though I don't know what speed my PC does.

Hypothetically, it could make the difference between a copy of all the data on a full 64 GB card to your computer taking 56 minutes at 150 Mbps instead of 50 minutes at 170 Mbps

edit: That's about 2100 RAW shots on a G3. I don't know about you, but I never shoot that many photos in a day.

Yeah Rob, good points! A 6 minute difference as you described would be nothing at all to me. Yeah, I'd never get close to shooting that much in a day. Most I've ever shot is about 350'ish and these days I'm shooting far less, more like 10 to 80 in a day, sometimes only half a dozen as I get more and more selective in my street photography as to what's worth shooting! :D

There seems to be a mixture of MB/s and Mb/s on here :)

When it comes to copying to a PC, the card interface is quite likely to be the limiting factor.

Thanks Steve. :)

By the way guys, I've just put the new card in (64 GB) and formatted it. The camera is aps-c. The display shows I can get 1196 shots in raw. But my other 64 GB card in my Sony a6600, also aps-c, gives me more than double that in raw. I guess I should have asked in the Ricoh forum, but is it likely the Ricoh is simply writing bigger raw files and so reducing the amount of photos that can be taken?

My mistake (clearly living in the past/on networks with Mbps as my primary reference)!

63GB (Formatted sice) Data Transfer times

170 MBps: 6m 10s
150 MBps: 7m

I think my main point stands, though, it makes little difference even at nominal transfer speeds, and you are right about other factors being in play :-D

For about £13 I'd just open it and give it a go rather than think of returning.
I would be borderline for 4K video depending on bitrate but the one you meant to get would be borderline for 4K video depending on bitrate too.

I use fairly old spec SD cards in my D500 (but I don't do video) with no perceptible difference in speed.

So you'll be ok.

Looking on Amazon I am astonished how the prices still seem to be coming down on SD cards. Shame XQD and CFExpress Type B can't follow suit.

Could be that or could be that you had one of the smaller lossless raw formats set up on your Sony.
