SD card trouble- wants to format?

I have a sony memory card that has stopped working!

I have photos I want to take off the card, I started to download and half way through it came up with error, and now when I try to connect, it says that this card is not recognised and when I turn the camera on with it inside, it says that it needs to be formatted?

Any suggestions?

I've had that with xD cards which have similar connections. In my case it just means a bad connection so I remove and re-fit it and it usually works. Sometimes it has taken 3 goes before it connects.

Try a different card reader if you can or at least try a different cable.

Edit. re reading your problem it looks like a corrupt card - which may have been caused by a bad connection. Try some file recovery software. There have been threads on TP about data recovery and there will be links to free software. just use the site search.
