I want to put a screen protector on my 7D and just thought i would ask for any recommendations before buying one.
I see there is the usual soft stick on or harder plastic ones and even ones that claim to be thin glass, any tips would be great.

For my 20d I made my own. I bought one of those screen savers for a Kindle / IPAD from a £poundshop, traced round the screen, put the trace on the screen protector, cut it to fit, peeled off the backing and it works a treat. Plus I've got some left over if I need to do it again but TBH it works brilliantly - been on for months with no sign of peeling.

Less than a quid - can't be bad.

Think I bought mine off eBay for the 7D. Just soft, peel able and easy to apply.
Had almost forgotten that I had put them on.
I am sure that I didn't pay much.

So thats the similar thing that you would put on a phone etc, i guess its not like the screen is touch screen so maybe that is the way to go then .
Has anyone bought the thin glass panel type that stick on ?? any good or not??

I bought this. It comes with a clear cover on a black border. Also a small one for the top screen. It is brilliant, definitely recommended.

Surely there's more chance glass will succumb to a knock than the plastic cover that's there? So you're putting something over your screen that's likely to get damaged, and when it breaks will scratch your screen:cuckoo:.

I think you're over thinking it. Technically on a canon the 'screen' is actually a replaceable cover anyway, and its more resilient than a soft 'screen protector' that'll lessen the view you see. Nothing you use will be an improvement on what Canon designed:thinking:

But I understand that some personality types feel the need for this type of 'protection', you'll guess I think it's a bit mad:nuts:

It certainly doesn't feel like glass. It feels like a bendable plastic cover. If the cover gets a knock and breaks, you're right, there is a chance it will damage the screen. If the cover wasn't there I would expect the screen to become damaged from the same knock anyway?
For me it's there to stop those unwanted, annoying scratches. I would imagine replacing the canon screen is a lot more than £5.

All I had to go on was the OPs description:)

It's a horses for courses issue, yes the Canon screen will be more expensive to replace, but only one of our camera screens is damaged, and that one scratch is lots less inconvenient than dealing with screen protectors (in my humble opinion).

My iPhone has lived without any sort of protection for over 3 years and looks like new, 20 times a day it's nicer to use than a protected one:)

Had a GGS one on my 40D and liked it so much I put one on my 50D and my Lumix bridge.
Very tough and yes, they are glass but they're laminated so if the glass layer cracks it won't damage the LCD cover anyway.
I don't think I'd ever buy any other type now tbh. ;)

Well I'm the personality type that likes to protect the screens on my mobile devices. :)

My 7d and 5d mk2 have GGS protectors on them. Very good quality protectors, and I'll happily put one on a new camera when I get one.

The screen protector on my 7D main screen is so good that you cannot tell it is there
I didn't quite as good a job on the top small screen, with a few tiny air bubbles, although I never notice them unless I am looking for them.

All my gadgets, as in phones and tablets have screen protectors.
If they get scratched, just peel them off and you still have a mint screen.

I have never caused any more damage than a few light scratches, and these protectors work a treat :)
