Edit My Images
Yes
i have a sony vaio laptop and its about 8 months old and now we have moved out from my mum and dads into our new home i find myself sitting at my desk in our spare room editing photos more, i find that it takes me ages to set the screen up and my seat so that i can view and edit the pics correctly either the screen is to light or dark if its in different positions (anyone else find this when working on a laptop?) also when i print some of the images are either to dark or to light and this varies on what angle the screen is at.
now my question is would i benefit more from having a separate screen set for editing so i can see the correct image on the screen that i wish to print?

i also have one of my dads old screens i could use as i dont have any money to buy one at this time.lol
Thanks

I would say so yes, laptop screens tend be lower quality an also glossy which can be a pain to work on under bright lights or if near a window.

Yes, you definitely would benefit from S-IPS type external screen. The majority are TN - which is technically plain rubbish - and have to be avoided. Dell, apple and nec sell some good models. An easy way to tell is near perfect viewing angle when the view doesn't change even looking right from each side.

thanks ill take a look at the screen my dad has to see if that will be ok, if not ill start saving.lol

I've been using HP LP2475w monitors for a while now for anything photographic or video related, absolutely great monitors. Without pulling out wires and rearranging my desk, I believe they have an HDMI input as well so I can hook up the D300s and get big accurate liveview & image review straight from the camera too.

Whichever monitor you get though, remember to calibrate it. Buying an expensive monitor essentially becomes as useful as buying a cheap one if it's not calibrated.

Once I've completed my Speedlight army, I'll be picking up some more of the HPs for my other PCs.
