Anyone got a good idea how ot remove slight scratches on lenses...not really effecting image quality...but ****ing me off.

Its a Nikon 18-200 VR

May not be cost effective. To have a lens element removed, reground and re coated will cost hundreds, particularly if is part of a group. I assume it's either the front or rear element.

Better to learn the lesson and prevent in future. Are you using a neutral filter to protect the front element?

I agree with andrewc, any attempt to fix it will likely make it worse. Those elements are high quality pieces of glass, you cant just use standard scratch treatments.
If it's not affecting the photo then don't worry too much, but if a filter is cheaper than a new lens, you may consider investing in one :)

This is the reason why i always have a UV filter on all my lenses from day one!

Ive had a UV filter on my nifty fifty from day one. but there are specs of dust not just inside the filter.. but inside the actual glass of the lens.

however does it get there.

Are the scratches on the glass or the casing? if it is on the glass I really would just leave it alone :)

The one lens that gives me good shots every time is the one with lots and lots of scratches on (and one of the cheapest). The lens I’m most disappointed with is the one with no scratches and the most expensive and brought from new.

If you can see a problem in the photos then It’s a problem – if not, clean it (carefully) fit a filter and forget…
