scottyboy 52 tread for 2010 week 8

Not too soon Simon will think it's too easy for us

Very nice Simon, multiple layers of curved in there. The glass, and the reflection of the surface in the glass too.

week 2,

Capture The Moment.

Snow on the hilltops
All night and day
There was snow
And the whiteness turned
In some places
With long steps
Tired steps
Of someone
Carrying
The burden of his life

Besides warm clothing
And some worn out shoes
Socks those were fuming
For the wet sock
Why not seek love in hills

Covered with snow

Why a beloved is not born here
And why there is not
A mad man of the snows
Snow is not as cold
There is intense heat inside
And the beloveds of the snow
Let’s sing for them tonight
Let’s tell them to lit heavy fire
Let those chimneys
emit smoke
Smoke the symbol of hope

And the fire burning
The smell of baking food
And the sweetness of the beloved’s
Warmth
Let us invent a story of love
As the hills covered with snow
And the pine trees carrying the weight of snow
Bent down

And the distant houses
All covered with a thick white blanket
Sleeping
And some young girls
Making breads and hot tea for the loved ones
In the early morning
As more snow
Rains from the skies

I like the glass picture. You have certainly got curves there and the reflections are nice. The snow picture is a bit dark in the foreground perhaps but maybe you meant it to be like that.

Hello Scott.

Nice glass picture for curved.
Simple but elegant and there are certainly some curves to it. I feel like I'd like to see some coloured liquid in the glass to add another dimension to it, but it still works well.

Poem pic is good, but I agree with Sue that the foreground is a bit too dark. I'm losing the trees on the RHS against the background. Could it maybe do with rotating a bit too so that it looks more level?
I'm actually surprised that I haven't seen more snow poems this week.

Good start and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Made me chuckle

 Great idea Scott, it's worked, but seems a little lost in the frame

The POV is good, lower than the cars, and the sky colour works well. The problem is the flash hasn't lit far enough. I appreciate you may have not had any choice if you had to handhold, but for me, the use of flash has dramatically affected the image, and not in a good way for my tastes. I think using the camera in Auto has popped up the flash and fired it regardless.

Hi Scott.
The sky is just beautiful in this one. I love the trees silhouetted against it and the pylon right at the back.
As John said, good choice of angle too. The POV is just where it should be.

For me the foreground really isn't very exciting though and being brightly lit by the flash that's where my eyes want to focus. It doesn't help that the flash fades out almost at the halfway point of the frame either because it seems to cut the shot in half.
IMO cropping off the bottom half of the shot (just after the dark area starts) would give a much more pleasing composition, with the focus more on the sky and silhouettes which is where the interest is.

If you could have managed a longer exposure without flash and maybe got some light trails in there it could have been a totally different shot. Maybe something to try if you get an opportunity to reshoot.

week 5 speed
play with toys :-)

sorry was rushed - updated photo @ 22nd feb
hope this is better

Hi Scott,

I think the idea for your speed shot had potential, but it wanted a burst of flash to give a sharp outline of the toy (preferably rear curtain to make the blur behind the toy) and a crop to get rid of the distracting background.

HTH

Love that chopped shot! Keep em coming...

WEEK 7 PEOPLE,
walking around a car rally the week end and ask a girl
if i could take her photo - just random people @ the rally

hope you like it

Yes - nice portrait! Could you have asked two of them for people?

Phil

A nice portrait Scott, well done for taking pictures of strangers.

Nice couple of ideas for speed. The toy shot is very nearly there. Great potential, but the lighting is a bit odd.
The car shot looks great – would be good to see it a little larger so that I could have a really good look though.

People – I think this is the best out of your 52 so far
It’s just a lovely natural portrait – well composed, the background has come out perfectly and there’s some really nice eye contact.
Well done on getting her to let you photograph her.

I've got no idea what that is. Probably why it's not doing much for me as an image I'm afraid.

I bet it did... that looks expensive... I'd guess it was a cylinder head and a valve has been smashed... It's on theme though, so works.

the valve also hit the piston top
cost over £2500 :-(

I have no idea what you just said . . . but OUCH !!!

As an image, I don't mind at all that I don't immediately know what it is. Many of the mechanical gubbins this week are beyond me
The DoF and the angle aren't sitting quite right with me though. The fact that it's a very square symmetrical composition, but the LHS is very sharp while the RHS is OOF just looks a little odd.

I think there's definitely something there, but it would have been nice if you could have played with some different compositions to try to bring out the best in it.

what is LHS? & RHS?

thats
scott

what is LHS? & RHS?

Left Hand Side and Right Hand Side :)

Nice image for Play. Happy girl at play and the colour frames her nicely. Looks a little soft around her eyes to me, has it had any sharpening?

That's a beautifully composed portrait IMO - the way that you've framed her in the window works brilliantly.

Lovely colours, lovely expression on her face and just the right amount of face/neck in the shot.
I do agree with Darren about the eyes though. I think they could do with a bit of attention in PP to really bring out some more detail.

OWOWOWOW!!!!!...

Sarah.. think chunks of engine that should never touch smashed together at high speed... that'll give you the general idea...

Onto play...

She looks very happy, playing in that colourful house. The colours frame her nicely.. It does look a little soft and possibly dark... there's no EXIF, what was the shutter speed ?
