From Friday I will be staying in Inverness for just over a week - has anyone got any suggestions for landscape photography locations, or wildlife for that matter? We'll be photographing ospreys early morning or the dolphins at chanonry point, but other than that we're not quite sure where to go, Glencoe near fort william is on the list as it looks amazing so one to check out. Any suggestions people? Much appreciated

Graeme

Edit: shoot, to cover more range perhaps it would have been better if i split this thread in two across both talk nature and talk landscape :/, concerned people might not see this now

If you are happy with long day driving have a look at Inverness - Kinlochewe - Torridon - Applecross - Loch Carron - Achnasheen -Inverness.

Before turning west at Kinlochewe to go down Glen Torridon it would be worth going just a few miles north of Kinlochewe to get views across Loch Maree to Slioch.

Glen Torridon has lots of opportunities for landscape shots. The road from Torridon to Applecross has great views across Loch Torridon and towards Raasay and Skye.

The Pass of the Cattle between Applecross and Loch Carron should not be missed. From the car park at the top of the pass there is a short walk up the track towards the mast for some great views to the east.

However, this route is close to 170 miles, which, with stops/walks for photos, to just take in the views and to eat (check out the Whistle Stop Cafe at Kinlochewe and The Potting Shed in the walled garden at Applecross House), is going to make it a long day.

Hope the good weather lasts for you.

Wow, just wow! Thank you! That sounds as though that could make for a great day! Since I'm driving all the way from Southern Cornwall, a little bit of driving can't hurt! :)

Glencoe is lovely for both Wildlife and Landscapes.
If you can, head for the Isle of Skye too!

Cheers, Glencoe is one on the list!

Google glen affric. Most photogenic place close by. I also used to cycle to Dores most weeks on the side of Loch Ness

Favourite view of mine is the view from the road over to glenelg which is well within reach an hour and twenty minutes normal driving/traffic speed. When you reach the top of that road look back onto the sisters of kintail nice sunset and that view is astounding.

Take the road off the A87 that's signposted to Tomdoun along the north of Loch Garry and keep following all the way along the north of Loch Quoich. It's a dead end eventually but fantastic scenery and you'll more than likely see a few stags. I guess it's about 25 miles all the way along to the end.

This plus Skye/Glencoe.

The suggestions above are all excellent, but if you're based in Inverness its a lot of driving time especially at this time of year with busy roads. You'll be averaging 40-45mph and it gets very frustrating. Inverness to Skye is a five hour round trip without stopping.
Consider staying overnight (camping?) closer to these locations to maximise your photography time.

you could try fairy glen Rosemarkie not to far from Inverness there's also an RSPB site just type 'fairy glen rosemarkie' into google it will give you some idea of whats there.

Fairy Glen at Rosemarkie has a great waterfall you can shoot and there is tons of Dippers and Wagtails everywhere! On the beach there sometimes can be tons of Oystercatchers & waders etc. :)

Some great suggestions.

I'm always drawn West but Inverness isn't the best base for that. If you're not careful you'll be driving all the time.

I'd agree with Glen Affric though for Landscapes.

You'll get Dolphins at Channonry Point which is a very short drive from Inverness.

Also a hop down the A9 for Loch Garten / Cairngoms
