Hi All,

Me and my wife are going to Scotland early June.

We have booked the below for 3 nights. This will allow us to explore Loch Lomond.

Then we move on to the below location near the Isle of Skye.

After that we want to head back down towards our home in Shropshire but we aren't sure where to stop off. We want to stop somewhere for the night so that it is not so long to drive back. I thought about Galloway Forest Park or Rothbury on the other side of the country which would allow us to visit Cragside (National Trust Porperty).

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stop for a night on our way back down to Shropshire?

Many thanks

Ian

I can recommend a visit to Cragside. A fascinating house and the gardens are fantastic.

It's not really on your direct route home, but I've been recommended Headlam Hall (close to Durham, www.headlamhall.co.uk) by so many friends and family that I intend using it as a stop on my next road trip north. Durham has always looked worth a trip when I've passed through on the train.

Thanks for the reply :) glad to here Cragside is worth the visit. Will definitely check that hotel out when I'm next in the area.

Unfortunately, I think it's too far down for somewhere to stop on the way back down to Shropshire.

Anyone else have any suggestions? :)

Not many scotland lovers on here then :(

Well, the one thing you haven't asked for is ideas on what to do from your bases in Callander and Skye - so my assumption was that you already have a full itinerary planned and were just looking for ideas on the way back.

Edit: And you'd probably get more responses if you Report your own post and ask an Admin/Mod to move it to Talk Photography or Talk Locations as that's where this type of thread generally gets more answers. A lot of members avoid OOF/GD because the signal:noise ratio is generally pretty poor, and the mad-ranter count a little on the high side.
