It's happened again (n)
Cutting the grass Thursday, bent over to get the grass box, ZAP, have some lightning in your back.
The pain is so silly just the simple things are a mission.
This is the 4th time in about 7 years. Does anyone know, once you've had it there will always be a chance of it happening again?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news my friend........

Depends what the cause is. Sciatica is a symptom of an underlying disorder and not a condition in itself. The fact that you have had it 4 times suggests that there is more to come. I have had it a few times. The pain can vary from mild to bloody awful.

as above, it also tends to be referred pain in the legs/foot rather than the back, although back pain is not unheard of. What makes you say Sciatica? rather than back pain? you really should get it looked at, somethings can be sorted and others the symptoms treated, but its not something that should be ignored

I will be going to the doctors Monday.
I say Sciatica because the 3 times it's happened before I was told Sciatica. This feels exactly the same as the last 3 times.
Just wondering if it was one of those things that once it has happens once you'll probably suffer from it. Looks like that's the case.

I had terrible sciatica about ten years or more ago, could hardly walk and driving the car was impossible, I certainly couldn't work. Doc prescribed strong codeine tablets and told me "You'll always have a problem with it". Great, thanks, I thought, the painkillers are just about as bad as the ailment, so no real help.

I went to see a McTimoney (a style of chiropractice I believe) chiropractor straight away afterwards and had a single session and came away feeling a bit better but still in a lot of pain. After about two or three weeks I was more or less fine and ten years plus down the road have had no reoccurrence of the sciatica other than an odd 'twinge' or two.

That's what I've had. The twinge or two.
I haven't found a painkiller that works for this.Codeine just leaves me with a headache.

I was told that it is often caused by the nerve running along the spine getting trapped. A lack of muscular fitness increases the likelihood of the nerve being trapped. I was prescribed exercise to try and improve muscular condition, and fingers crossed hasn't returned in over 5 years.

hi there, the reason i ask is a lot of people call back pain sciatica without a diagnosis, sciatica is an irritation of the sciatic nerve.it can be caused but bone growth within the spine, bone collapse, or inflammation of soft tissues and multiple other causes.
lack of fitness is a big cause of problems in the back it can cause sciatica or just back pain. if the pain is localized to just the back then sciatica is less likely as this is the nerve that gives the lower limbs sensation-hence transferred pain down the leg.depends on the cause to weather it is likely to return, if there was bone growth impinging the nerve then it is very unlikely it would go away at all. tbh back pain after gardening sounds more probably muscular but it could be multiple things, get it properly looked at, i see and X-ray loads of backs on a daily bases and you really don't want to leave it to get in a mess

Yes, my GP sent me for physio (he later told me his brother had sciatica and he told him to go to a chiropractor). 3 months of physio and no change in the pain so I went to a chiro and got relief after a few sessions . He gave me exercises to do to improve muscle strength and posture in order to relieve the strain on a damaged/worn disc. I still do the exercises every morning (they only take a few minutes).

Probably the outcome of any treatment depends on the cause of the sciatica. No sure fire remedy for all cases.
