School rugby match - will 70-200 f/2.8 cut the mustard?

are you still getting a d300? the higher MP will help for cropping but for press a d200 will be plenty

should be fine, I was shooting for the uni paper so went for nice tight crops

School - they are in no way a remotely professional team, it's good experience though and a chance to try out my new (used) 70-200.
 
Should be fine. Shoot from the ends and wait until the play is close to the try line and fill the frame. Also follow the play and shoot from the sidelines when play is at your side.
 
yep will be fine. not saying that my pic`s are all that good, but that's all i got, and seems to be ok.
