Hi all got a quick question.
My sister is a teacher and in her school they are doing a dinner and fashion show, they have someone doing a video of the event and at the last min has decided they want stills as well.
They have asked me to do it, my question is i dont have a CRB am i still ok to go and photograph the even. the kids are 11-16 year olds

Thanks for the help

Yes.

Even if you were CRB checked by your employer it is worth diddly squat in this situation UNLESS your employer is the school at which your Sister is a teacher. Such is the way of the world.

Friend of mine is a teaching assistant in two schools, one in Norfolk, the other in Suffolk. Had to have 2 CRB's done! :cuckoo:

I think it's the schools responsibility, so if they say it's ok then it's out of your hands.

Don't get me started on CRB's, I can see how they work but they also fail on so many levels.

A CRB is carried out by an employer on an employee who will be left in charge of children and/or vulnerable adults. The CRB is in effect liable only to that employer. In the same way a structural surveyor is liable only to his client for the accuracy of the survey.

So if you have been CRB checked by one employer it does not translate to another employer, permanent, temporary or casual.

If you are commissioned by the school to act as an official photographer on a particular day, as I understand it, they do not need to CRB you as you will not in theory be left in charge of the children in a supervisory capacity. You should ensure that a member of staff is in your vicinity so that you have peace of mind.

I was CRB checked by my daughters primary as a permanent school photographer.

I have worked in schools with no mention of a CRB. In one case the Head gave me free reign to get on with the job, a refreshing attitude.

As I understand things, you do not need to be CRB checked to photograph the fashion show for the school.

I had a full CRB check a year ago for one particular project from one employer. However I have done pics in at least a dozen schools since then - freelancing for local press - and no-one has ever mentioned it. They are too keen to get the press there! You definately don't need it.

You DO NOT need to be CRB checked for the event. The school can ask to CRB check you if they wish but you do not NEED to be checked under these circumstances. If you were doing the work regularly and unsupervised then yes, but that is not the case.

Thanks for the help looks like im busy tomorrow night then lol
