Managed to get a few days booked in a hotel in Newton Stewart, needing recommendations of nice scenic locations for landscape photography while I'm visiting for 4 days - I'm thinking around about Stranraer, Portpatrick, Mull of Galloway?

Thanks in advance!

Brian, funnily enough I live in Newton Stewart ; I could recommend :-
1.Glen Trool . North of Newton Stewart ( head for Glentrool village then Bruces stone.)
2 . Portpatrick . Great coast walk to Killlantringan Lighthouse . Park at Golf course car park at top of hill.
3. Portpatrick - walk coast in other direction to Dunskey Castle .( from car Park to left at harbour then follow path up hill )

4. Creetown :- Salmon stake nets if tide is out . ( Lay by just past Creetown turn off - on RHS.)
5. Ravenshall -On side of A75 just before Auchenlarie campsite.Park at layby with big fence and find your own way down to sea ; there is a path.

Hope that's a start; if I think of anything else i'll post it up.
Take Midge repellent!!!!
Cheers Joe.

Joe, cheers for the reply. I'll get an OS map of the area and have a look at those areas. Just hoping for decent weather! (unlike my last trip to Inveraray in May which was pretty wet!)

Hi

I can also recommend the Glen Trool area, along with the Raiders Road and Clatteringshaws. The road from Newton Stewart to Barrhill passes some pretty lochs (B7027) and stunning scenery.

Glenkiln (near Shawhead, Dumfries) has a scattering of Henry Moore statues randomly placed around the area

You have picked a beautiful part of the world to visit:thumbs:

Kircubright is ok... if the light is with you... and the tide!

I was down there recently...dumbfries area.... had poor weather... but there is potential... I think a good bit of it involves a bit of walking off the road though!

To be honest I think there are better areas of coast to capture... I was not out as far as you are going though
