Yes
I have had a request from a neighbour of mine. She has a large print around the size of a small poster. The print is a sepia one of her grandfather I believe.

She want's the print reproduced for her immediate family, so the only image of him is not lost.

I can think of two ways with the stuff i have, scan it in sections and put back together in photoshop. Or take a photo of it. Then get it printed.

Any other suggestions or opinions on how I can go about it?

You could try Photomerge in Photoshop CS2 / CS3. I think some later versions of Elements can do it too. My only advice is to make sure it's as flat as possible, and leave an overlap for it to join.

Photographing it could work well but you must get the lighting right.

Has the photograph been mounted onto a board?
If it has, my preferred option would then be to photograph it (as it is flat). Take the photograph on an overcast day using available light. Also, if it was me, I'd bracket the exposure quite a bit.

.

I think I'd try photographing it first, ensure correct registration, use a tripod, even light, take multiple shots and stitch together using Photoshop or panorama software (maybe http://www.ptgui.com/ ?) which should ensure high resolution is achieved.
