I have a slide show to do for a friends birthday and have been given about 70 prints of various sizes which I need to scan. I had hoped to display on a white screen so need large files to preserve as much detail as possible. The first scans are producing file sizes of 250-400 kb, very small! How can I get the largest practicable files out of say 6 x4" scans please? TIA

Don't know what your scan software is, but try to access its 'advanced' options, and increase the resolution to say 600 ppi. Whilst you're at it, look at tonal adjustments too (curves, levels), to maximise what you get out of the original. It doesn't take long once you get going. Then there's coping with dust specks ...
