Guys,

If I shoot some film and get it developed, can I then scan the negatives so I can adjust shadows and highlights etc in Photoshop before having the shots that I like printed????

Yes

to a point. You wont be able to recover as much as you would a digial raw file but you can certainly tweak everything.

Have a read of this guide to scanning negatives.

The important thing to realise is that a scanned negative will look bloody awful if you've done it right to extract the most image information. It only looks good once you've done your digital processing afterwards.

Alastair, that scanning guide is just the thing I've been after. I've only used my V500 for a couple of weeks but I feel I'm not getting the best out of it, this may help me.

Cheers Mate.

Oh! and Yes

I agree. When I use my Epson v750 it is essential to use the histogram to reduce the highlights. If the highlights are blown out when scanned they can not be got back later in any software. If the highlights are dull and appear under exposed just correct them in the software afterwards.
